Well, we were HOPING to have been open by now (honestly, we were HOPING to have been open by the first of the year, but that didn’t happen), but there were many, many snags along the way in this construction process. The latest issue was that in leveling out the ground, the crew hit ground water and there was water actively flowing from the rifle range for 3 1/2 weeks. They got that under control and were able to move on with the rest of the project. They’re starting the ricochet deflector this week.
We’ve heard they EXPECT to be finished sometime mid-June…but we’ll keep you updated and let you know an exact reopening date when we know. We are planning an official reopening celebration a couple of weeks after we get back in the swing of things.
Unfortunately, in the past 6 1/2 months of being shut down, we’ve lost 3 of our regular employees. One passed on, and 2 moved on. So, we’re looking to fill a few part-time positions. If you or someone you know might be interested in a part-time job with crappy pay here at the range, check out the job description and fill out the interest form at this link. https://sandhillshootingsports.com/employment-opportunities/ After we review the information submitted, we’ll contact with further instructions.
For those who are interested, Lance Corporal Chesty McBoomstick is still being spoiled rotten and will be back at work when we reopen. We’ve had to have him stay overnight in the building a few times because the mice think they’re allowed to re-inhabit the building, and we have to let them know otherwise. He hasn’t lost any of his personality over these past several months. As a matter of fact, he may have gotten more sassy.
Many of you may already be aware, but Governor McMaster signed the Open Carry with Training Act into law earlier this month that goes into effect 90 days after he signed it. In short, that means, starting August 15, 2021, you will be able to CHOOSE if you want to carry your concealable firearm openly or concealed. That means if you have a valid CWP you DO NOT have to have your shirt, a jacket, etc. covering your firearm. It’s your choice now. If you WANT to continue to carry concealed, great, continue on as you have been. But, if you WANT to not cover your sidearm, you now have that choice…if you have a valid permit. Also, if you apply for a permit or renew on or after August 15, 2021, you NO LONGER HAVE TO PAY A FEE TO THE STATE for that permit. You will still have to pay for the required class, but the fee to the state has been eliminated by this law. https://www.sled.sc.gov/forms/regulatory/SLED%20Open%20Carry%20with%20Training.pdf
When we know for sure what our reopening date will be, we will announce dates for upcoming training classes, other than our regularly scheduled CWP classes. In the meantime, you can keep up with us on our social media platforms.
