IMPORTANT CWP Process & Fee Updates!

May 25, 2021 By Sherra Scott Leave a Comment

Have you taken your CWP class but not turned in your application yet? READ THIS!!!

SLED has released new guidance on how they will be processing CWP applications before & after August 15th. If you were required to take the full class (not prior military, etc.) you MUST get your application in before August 15, 2021 or you will have to have an updated proof of training form. This also means that you will be required to pay the $50 fee to SLED. If you were exempt from the firearms proficiency portion of the CWP class, you will not be required to provide an updated proof of training form. Here is the full guidance memo from SLED regarding this. -> NOTICE – Fees and Training (FINAL)(5.24.21)

ConstructionUpdate, Law Changes, Job Openings

May 24, 2021 By Sherra Scott Leave a Comment

water on rifle range

water on rifle rangeWell, we were HOPING to have been open by now (honestly, we were HOPING to have been open by the first of the year, but that didn’t happen), but there were many, many snags along the way in this construction process. The latest issue was that in leveling out the ground, the crew hit ground water and there was water actively flowing from the rifle range for 3 1/2 weeks. They got that under control and were able to move on with the rest of the project. They’re starting the ricochet deflector this week.

We’ve heard they EXPECT to be finished sometime mid-June…but we’ll keep you updated and let you know an exact reopening date when we know. We are planning an official reopening celebration a couple of weeks after we get back in the swing of things.

Unfortunately, in the past 6 1/2 months of being shut down, we’ve lost 3 of our regular employees. One passed on, and 2 moved on. So, we’re looking to fill a few part-time positions. If you or someone you know might be interested in a part-time job with crappy pay here at the range, check out the job description and fill out the interest form at this link. https://sandhillshootingsports.com/employment-opportunities/ After we review the information submitted, we’ll contact with further instructions.

Lance Corporal Chesty McBoomstickFor those who are interested, Lance Corporal Chesty McBoomstick is still being spoiled rotten and will be back at work when we reopen. We’ve had to have him stay overnight in the building a few times because the mice think they’re allowed to re-inhabit the building, and we have to let them know otherwise. He hasn’t lost any of his personality over these past several months. As a matter of fact, he may have gotten more sassy.

Many of you may already be aware, but Governor McMaster signed the Open Carry with Training Act into law earlier this month that goes into effect 90 days after he signed it. In short, that means, starting August 15, 2021, you will be able to CHOOSE if you want to carry your concealable firearm openly or concealed. That means if you have a valid CWP you DO NOT have to have your shirt, a jacket, etc. covering your firearm. It’s your choice now. If you WANT to continue to carry concealed, great, continue on as you have been. But, if you WANT to not cover your sidearm, you now have that choice…if you have a valid permit. Also, if you apply for a permit or renew on or after August 15, 2021, you NO LONGER HAVE TO PAY A FEE TO THE STATE for that permit. You will still have to pay for the required class, but the fee to the state has been eliminated by this law. https://www.sled.sc.gov/forms/regulatory/SLED%20Open%20Carry%20with%20Training.pdf

When we know for sure what our reopening date will be, we will announce dates for upcoming training classes, other than our regularly scheduled CWP classes. In the meantime, you can keep up with us on our social media platforms.

construction

After many bumps in the road, dirt finally started getting moved yesterday! The long-awaited construction project has FINALLY begun. We won’t have an official reopen date for a few weeks, but if things go as scheduled, we’re looking at sometime in mid-May. Stay tuned!

December Construction Update

December 17, 2020 By Sherra Scott 1 Comment

Boomstick Sleeping

Understandably, we’ve been getting questions about updates on the construction progress. Unfortunately, we don’t have much to update at the moment or an estimated re-open date. We thought all the permits were in place, but there was one we had that wasn’t the “right” one. So, we’re delayed until that gets straightened out. We have people much smarter than us in these matters working on it. Unfortunately, due to the agreement that was signed, we are unable to operate until the project is complete, even when there is no work taking place. :(

All memberships that were active as-of November 2020 will be extended for whatever period of time we are closed and any gift certificates that were due to expire during this time will also be honored for a similar extension.

We miss seeing our members and regulars tremendously! And rest assured, Lance Corporal Chesty McBoomstick is being spoiled and getting all the attention he wants.

Closed For Construction – Effective Monday, November 9, 2020

November 6, 2020 By Sherra Scott 2 Comments

Due to upcoming construction on the range, Sandhill Shooting Sports will be closed for live-fire on the range for approximately one month, beginning November 9, 2020. The one-month timeframe is an estimate. Unfortunately, we will not know the exact date we will be allowed to resume live-fire activities until everything is actually completed

We truly wish we had more advance notice for this, but without going into details – which we’re not at liberty to do at this time – suffice it to say everything came to a head this week and we have no say in when this happens.

We will let you know when we are able to resume live-fire events at the range. You can also keep up with the goings-on via our website, Facebook, and Instagram.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we look forward to seeing you at the range once the construction is complete.
